What makes a dog’s day so much better? TREATS, of course!
Many big-brand dog treats can contain chemicals and other things which may be harmful. And let’s face it, pet treats aren’t going down in price. In fact, the high prices are getting a bit ridiculous. Pet owners are searching for a better way. Making dog treats at home is one way to ensure you can continue to afford treats as well as controlling what ingredients are consumed.
We have developed several recipes our dogs absolutely love. As always, you are responsible for your pet’s health. Make sure your WOOF! can tolerate the ingredients used in these treats.
Here is an easy dog treat recipe. It’s definitely a favorite around here. Enjoy!
Paw Team PB Dog Treats Preheat oven to 340 degrees (fahrenheit). Prepare your baking pan/cookie sheet. Pro Paw Tip: Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. 2 cups flour of your choice (we use oat flour but you can also use other types) 1/2 cup Peanut Butter (no salt, no chemicals!) 1 tablespoon honey (optional) 1 egg (optional) 1/8 to 1/4 cup water Pro Paw Tip: Add the water slowly - a little bit at a time. Add more or less as needed. You need a dough consistency. Mix all ingredients together thoroughly with mixer or by hand. Make small dough balls and place each one about an inch apart on a prepared cookie sheet. Press each dough ball down with a fork to make a little cookie no thicker than about 1/3 inch. If you have cookie cutters, roll the dough on a counter to about 1/3 inch thickness. Cut out shapes and place on baking sheet. We use bone-shaped cookie cutters, but there are many shapes to choose from. You can also use oven-safe, silicon pet treat molds. Just spoon out the dough and press into the silicon molds. Bake these pawsome treats at 340F for about 15 minutes (more or less depending on thickness). We store our dog treats in airtight containers on the counter because they will be consumed within a week or two. However, for longer storage, you can put in fridge or even freeze them. This canine culinary treat has become a favorite. Remember, use treats sparingly! Though our dogs enjoy several treats each day, your dog's needs may be different. Adjust for size or weight or health needs, as appropriate for your situation. As pet owners, we are all responsible to educate ourselves on what is best for our family members who have fur.
